What Is Krav Maga?
WHAT IS KRAV MAGA?
Krav Maga is the official system of hand-to-hand combat and self-defense employed by the Israeli Defense Forces- (IDF), Mossad, and Shin Bet.
Krav Maga training focuses on teaching efficient techniques which are specifically catered to reality based attack situations and specifically designed to get quick results in a short training peroid.
The guiding principles for Krav Maga are:
- Neutralize the threat
- Avoid injury
- Go from defending to attacking as quickly as possible
- Use the body's natural reflexes
- Strike at vulnerable areas
- Use any tool or object nearby
There are many principles that are taught in Krav Maga – most teach the student to employ just about any means possible to incapacitate his or her opponent. Students will learn to hit any area that is available on an opponent as well as use anything (such as a tool or object) within their reach to their advantage. A student of Krav Maga will also learn to deal with the most important or most dangerous threats first and to keep the opponent or attacker from striking again. Krav Maga teaches the student to utilize the body’s own natural reflexive responses and abilities to move quickly from a defense position to one of attacking or striking.
WHY SHOULD I LEARN KRAV MAGA?
Being physically and mentally prepared to handle confrontation is why thousands of law enforcement agencies and civilians around the world train in Krav Maga. Based on simple principles and instinctive movements, this reality-based system is designed to teach real self defense in the shortest possible time. You'll learn to defend against common chokes and grabs from all angles, punches and kicks, and weapons such as guns, knives and sticks. Just as important, Krav Maga will teach you to function under the stress, shock and adrenalin rush of a sudden, violent encounter. Tested on the battlefields and the streets, Krav Maga's practical approach to self defense will make you safer and more secure.
Krav maga is effective for everyone. No matter how old or young, big or small, strong or weak, male or female. Unlike most self defense systems which are all hype and no substance, Krav Maga is the real deal. It is 100% street oriented and ensures that you get training for defending and surviving in real life situations, in any environment. Your time will not be wasted on impractical and irrelevant rituals that are a large part of other martial arts like: Katas, bowing and special costumes
In Krav Maga, there are no rules, and there are no competitions. All the techniques focus on maximum efficiency and damage in real-life conditions. In Krav Maga, the attacks and defenses are intended to inflict the most pain possible on the attacker in the least amount of time. Groin strikes, headbuts, and other efficient and potentially brutal attacks are emphasized.
The advantage Krav Maga has over other martial arts is that not only is it extremely adaptable, it is also constantly evolving. Whatever real world scenarios that may occur, Krav Maga finds realistic defenses for them. Most martial arts (especially traditional ones) tend to teach rigid curriculums that aren't up for discussion or change while Krav Maga encourages its students to find creative ways to use the techniques and even incorporates new lessons learned from real life encounters. Krav Maga is the most complete and brutal fighting system there is - created for real life situations.
The focus of Krav Maga is to counter hard and fast. The faster you can attack your opponent the better your chances of surprising them. Most martial arts have both specialized weapons defense and training. Krav Maga on the other hand trains its students for everyday real life scenarios. The point is how often does a person get attacked in the and have a set of nunchucks to defend themselves with?
